on 8/2/2008 Good general advice Lindsay. I recently had a first
Internet date with a woman who would not turn her
cell phone off.

She wouldn't answer it, but it rang 4 or 5 times.

It was annoying because we were having a great
conversation and it was distracting. But, thinking
about it later, there was probably a friend checking
in, among other calls, to make sure she was OK.
That is a good idea too, for woman on an Internet
date or any first date.

One other tip for woman, if you go on an Internet
or any other date with someone you don't know
well, always take your purse with you if you excuse
yourself to visit the restroom - your date might
just take off with it!

"Hi this is Lindsay Colbus from Lindsay Colbus Accessories and on behalf of Expert Village today I am going to show you how to dress for a date. I am just going to give you some quick tips sort of like the unwritten rules of the first date and even for the second and third date. Things that should always apply when you are first getting to know somebody. Cell phones for example, everybody has a cell phone. If you are like me you have it with you at all times. It's usually on ring so you hear it. I think a really good idea for going on a date first of all put your phone either on vibrate or silent. There is nothing more annoying than if you happen to get lets say four or five calls in one hour and you keep answering them. And even if you ignore these calls it's still an annoyance and your phone keeps ringing and you have to pick it up and turn it off. It's a distraction. If you are on a date you are on a date for X amount of hours, two hours, its time for you to get to know the other person that you are with, not to be answering your cell phone or be distracted by anything else. So don't answer your cell phone. Don't text message during the date. I mean just think about it be logical. What would happen if he was on his phone throughout the whole date? You would be like oh my god this guy is paying no attention to me and he is constantly on his phone. It looks bad. It's a bad impression. Just there is so many mistakes that you can easily make on a first date so just turn off the cell phone and play it safe."
