"As you can see right now, not lot of pre - load. When there is a lot of pre - load I won't be able to turn this stem. Like they won't move independently right now hey move very independently. So that means that if I rock back and forth with my front brake locked on the ground there would be some clunking, some looseness and that's going to damage my bike. So what I want to do it I want to pre - load this so that I can still turn the handle bars freely. There is not a lot of resistance here, it feels the same as it felt when it was loose, but when I grab the fork and rock it back and forth. I don?t get clunking; I don?t feel any kind of looseness. What I am going to do is run it as loose as I can, just a sort of fine adjustment, where as loose as you can get it without everything clunking or knocking. That is going to make your bike track the best. Like when I take my hands off the handle bar I'm going to be able to ride no handed in a straight line because this thing is loose and self corrected. That feels pretty good we are going to give it quarter turn from there. We are going to sight down; make sure that my stem bolts that my stem is lined up. I am going to evenly torque up my stem bolts. Now the thing to remember is that if your headset does come loose and you want to tighten it, you have to undo your stem bolts. You have to loosen those before you tighten this top cap because if you don't you are not going to be able tighten anything because anything below your stem is held in place by the bolts on your stem. These are well lubricated bolts; I greased them so that I can get a good clamping force on them and also loosen them in the future if I need to. Now I have got my thread less headset adjusted on my bike."
