"This is Lauren for Expert Village and we are going to talk a little bit about where to find a Chinchilla and this is part 1. The best place to find a chinchilla is actually from a reputable breeder and a lot of people don't know there are actually Chinchilla breeders out there. If you go and look for them on website and a lot of them do have websites or there are referral listings where you can give them a phone call and there is usually a phone number listed. I suggest to go around to their websites and look up a little bit about the bio they have on their home page. Kind of look around, compare the animals that you see on their page, the other ones. Try and find the ones that look like they are large and healthy animals that they are kept in pretty good condition. Some of the advantages of buying a Chinchilla from a breeder is that you know the genetic backgrounds. There are a lot of genetic issues that come up within Chinchilla families and if you don't know where they came from, the chances of them having some sort of genetic problem are a lot greater. If you do find a reputable breeder, they know their animals, they know which ones should not be bred. Sometimes you can even get a pedigree on them and you can ask lots of questions about the line and they can fill you in on more information instead of just picking one out and not knowing anything about it. Stay with us where to find a Chinchilla Part 2. "
