"Right now we're going to talk about blends, the next step after your child has learned consonant vowel consonant. Like cat and dog or pot. We're going to throw 2 consonants in the beginning as a blend. Now there are a limited number of blends. I think I've covered them all here, we have fl, pl, bl, and again try not to put the uu or try not to put a vowel on the end, try to just get the two sounds of the letter. Fl, pl, bl, st, sp, sn, cl, pr, br, cr, tr, gr, and gl. Now have your child say those the way I said them, go slowly and have them just practice the blend sound in the beginning. Once they've mastered them and you can jump around and do them out of order sometimes cause I always do things out of order if I do them more than once because their mind might start to memorize the order rather than them working on it. Then we can get our, some of our words out and start writing them as fast as they come to you. Flap, snap, clip, and have them sound this blend out as one consonant, let them get the blend first. Fl-ap, fl-ap, fl-ap. So that two letters replaced what use to be the one letter and then have them go down. Think of as many as you can and keep them on one page with blends or make two pages if you have to and that is our next step in our phonics learning."
