Summary: Learn how to play minor pentatonic scales on the electric guitar in this free video music lesson.
"H, I'm Mike Lais. On behalf of Expert Village, today we are going to be talking about getting familiar with the guitar. Another scale that is commonly used in playing the guitar is the Minor Pentatonic Scale. A lot of people that play rock or blues will use this scale when it comes to soloing because it has that, it has that sort of a bluesy kind of a feel to it. Ant it's really one of the most simple scales on the guitar. All it is, it goes like this. And that is the Pentatonic Scale in the key of A but again, you can do this shape anywhere you would like, you can play it in any key that you would like, it's just a matter of picking a different starting note, same pattern. But what we're going to want to do is for us to play it in the key of A, you start out on the fifth fret and you play on the lowest string, the fifth fret. And then we're going to want to jump up to the eighth and now we're going to go to the next string over and play the fifth fret of that string and then the seventh fret and then continue this pattern throughout. And now we're going to want to do the fifth and the eighth again for the remaining strings. So now we can play it backwards and forwards, it doesn't matter, you should be able to play it both ways. And for the strumming hand, we're just going to want, again, keep it over the sound hole and it's two strums per string. And that is your A minor Pentatonic Scale."
