"Hi, I'm Mike Lais. On behalf of Expert Village, today we are going to talk about getting familiar with the guitar. OK it's time to practice. The first thing we've got to cover is how to position yourself so you can be comfortable and be most efficient with what you?re doing. The first thing we're going to need is an armless chair of any kind, whatsoever. This way you are not restricted and things won't get in the way when you?re playing. I'm going to pull myself in and sit on the chair just like so, just as you would if you were about to eat a sandwich, it's just as simple as that. You've got to be relaxed and comfortable. So now I'm going to take my guitar, I'm going to press it against my chest, not firmly, but just nice and relaxed with it and on the leg that's furthest away from the head stop. Now, what I want to do is take my strumming hand that is going to be rapped around the guitar like this, resting your bicep on the top of the guitar so you can get a nice easy flow right over the sound hole, perfect just like that. Now you want to take your fretting hand and you want to rap it around where you can have your thumb wrapped around just like this or when it comes time to start playing some faster notes you want to have your finger or your thumb pressed in to the back of the guitar just like that. It really just makes it easier for you to reach around for those higher notes. Now that we have that set up, we should be ready to play a few notes."
