"CASEY CORMIER: The fifth mode, the Mixolydian mode, is actually the most popular mode next to the Ionian and the Aeolian. It is used really basically around 7, V7 chords as we have learned when we have done our arpeggiated progressions, this is where everything is the same as the major except for a flat 7. So let us look at C major but let us look at it in terms of the C7 or a Mixolydian mode. So the scale degree is we got C is 1, D is 2, E is 3, F is 4, G is 5, A is 6, B flat as the flat 7, go back to 1. 1-2-3-4-5-6-flat 7-1 okay. And this is the relative scale of Ionian, same notes of the Ionian of F. F-G-A-B flat-C-D-E and F has the same notes just now our C would represent a C7 major chord let us say or our C7 arpeggio going back to an F major arpeggio. The significance is the difference between the major and Mixolydian. Let us look at E flat Mixolydian quickly, same moveable shape second finger, fourth finger, first finger, second, fourth, first, second, fourth okay going down the strings. And this is the relative Mixolydian of A flat Ionian or major. So practice your Mixolydian scale."
