How to Set Up a Drum Set Kick Pedal & Seat

"SHAUN SCHAEFER: Hi, I'm Shaun Schaefer on behalf of Expert Village. And today, we're going to learn how to set up a drum kit. So now, we're going to set up the kick drum with the kick drum pedal and our seat, because that's basically how everything starts, is with the kick drum. So first, I'm going to flip the kick drum upright, then we're going to extend the one leg. This is an older drum kit, so it's a little tougher than the newer stuff. And then I just flip it around, so I don't have to, like, get up and move, and then do the other leg. Now, it's really important that you make sure the legs are tight and then that the kick drum is not--is wiggly, and that's not too bad considering we're on this thick carpet. Now that we have the kick drum set up, it's time to put on the kick drum pedal. This should slide in right there and make sure it's all the way up against that head. Just go ahead and tighten it. Then I usually hit it with my fingers just to make sure and to see if there is any wiggle. Not much wiggle, looks like it's good to go. And last but not least, I'm going to set up the seat. So you want to slide this into the hole and make sure it's tight. There's nothing worse than sitting on a loose seat. Go ahead and spread the legs. I might need to kind of work it here a little bit. And the one thing, the one key, too, especially when setting up the seat and the stands, I always keep mine at the same height. I never break them all the way down, so I never have to adjust. So now, set the seat up. I'm going to put the kick drum where we want it. And this is it. This is where everything starts. This is where I'm going to live for the rest of the night."
