"You know, again, I hope that you listened to some Mississippi John Hurt, if you're interested in this style, because a lot of players in this style kind of go back to John Hurt and to those recordings and learn a lot from his style. You know he even recycled a lot of his own kind of progressions and made different songs out of them. So, for example, one well known old folk song is "Lay Me a Pallet on Your Floor," which is basically an F, C and a G progression. So it's kind of like. So, you know, it kind of goes: "Lay me a pallet on your floor. Won't you lay me a pallet on your floor? Oh, lay me a pallet on your floor." You know, kind of like that. Right? Basic little progression and then he would have recycled it a few years later, I guess it was later, maybe he started out with the other one. But then, he had a song called "Ain't No Telling," which is the same progression, you know. "Don't you let my good girl catch you here. Don't you let my good girl catch you here. She might shoot you, liable to cut you and stab you too. Ain't no telling what she might do." So, the point I'm making is there's so many different songs you could sing or even make up your own, to kind of some basic progressions that are already out there. And, you know, even the man himself, John Hurt, used to do that a lot with his own progressions."
