"I'm going to talk now about line three on the income section of the form 1040EZ. This is for unemployment compensation and Alaska Permanent Fund Dividends. If you were unemployed during the year, you should get a form 1099G from your state agency and this will have, in box one, the amount that you need to report as unemployment compensation, and you want to put this amount on line three. You may also receive Alaska Permanent Funds Dividends from the state of Alaska, and if you did, you want to add this total to any unemployment you had, and include that on line three. Once you've done that, we're ready to obtain line four which is your adjusted gross income. You simply add lines one, two and three to get your adjusted gross income. Your adjusted gross income is used to figure your earned income credit, if applicable, and also your federal tax."
