How to Feed Your Cat Pills Using Pill Pockets

I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan and I am the owner of Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk to you about cat first aid and administration of medications. Now let us say your doctor has diagnosed something for which your pet needs to take a pill. Now, there are a lot of ways to give a cat a pill. If your cat likes to have treats, this is what I found to be my favorite way with my cats. They are called pill pockets. Now if the pill is too big, sometimes it does not work because if the cat chews through it and tastes the pill, they would not do it again. But what I have found is it if I get my cat hooked on these before I ever give him a pill in one, so like he loves these things. I just think these things are the greatest. So I just feel in these guys like for little treats, all the time every night this is part of his treat. And then when I want to give my pill I wrap up a pill in one and make a little ball, I do not use the whole pill pocket because that is too big and the cat will pick it apart so I use only about a half or a third of it and make a little ball and I put that down with a pill in it. They are getting scared now. You saw him eating them before and this is still one without a pill in it. Now he smells the revolution on it. Normally, it does not work this way. He loves them and he gobbles some down pill and all but I think he has just gotten nervous, so even with a pill, he does not know it, as long as I have primed the pump enough time for fake ones. And a lot of times, when I have one of the pills in front of it or I will have one without a pill right behind it so it is like he eats one of the pills and then eats the one without the pill so it is like it keeps them going. So that is my favorite way to give a cat a pill."
