Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan and I am the owner of Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk to you about cat first aid and administration of medications. Now similar to eye drops, eye ointments are sometimes used in different situations. Now depending on your cat, you might not need to scruff in this situation because it is harder, I think to do it scruffing. So I sneak up from behind and I pull that eyelid, you do not want to poke the eye, that is the most important part, so you just want to squirt a little bit on to the eye and tip it off against the eyelid, so that you are not touching the cornea with it, the cornea being the eyeball itself. So you just want to lift, sometimes using two fingers lift, lift that eyelid a little bit, put a little tiny bit in, if you miss you got to do it again and then rub it off and then you want to see it on the eye and watch it melt on to the eye and so again all these things can help if you have a partner that can help you do them but the trick on this is not to poke them with it, but you put a little bit of the ointment on and then to disconnect the ointment from the tube, you tip it off on the eyelid, so you are not touching the eye.
