Forget turntables, compact disc players, even the radio; iTunes is the way people listen to music these days, either on their computers or on their iPods. This program was developed by Apple Computers and first introduced to the public in January of 2001. Initially designed to organize digital and video files, it now offers a vast array of options, including games, podcasts, ringtones, audiobooks and even feature-length films. The application is available for free download on Apple's website, for Mac as well as windows operating systems.

In this free series of music technology videos, our mp3 and on-line video expert demonstrates how to use iTunes. He begins with an overview of the interface, then tells you how to do basic tasks such as importing CDs and adding files to your iTunes library. Your will also learn how to download and rent movies and television shows. Not sure how to change preferences, view album artwork or use the Universities feature? Watch this extensive series and you will become an iTunes expert!

"DREW NOAH: So, in this series, I'm going to be showing you how to use iTunes which is an application that is basically like a digital media player for all of your digital media and a way to organize your media; that media being things like music, movies, TV shows, podcasts. So, iTunes is made by Apple and I'm sure you've heard of it before. It's basically a place where you can organize all the music you already have and also a one-stop place to get or buy new music and new movies from the iTunes store. It's also what you'll have to use if you decide to get an iPod. So, in this series, I'm just going to kinda give you the basics of everything you can do with iTunes. And even if you already use iTunes, maybe there's going to be a couple of things that maybe you didn't know how to do including some of the new things like movie rentals right here that they just added. So, just to start off, if you don't already have iTunes, I'm just going to show you how to download it and you'll just want to go to your internet browser and you could just search Apple or you could search iTunes and that would come up as well. But basically, you want to go to Apple.com and then you want to go up here to iPod + iTunes or you could go straight to www.apple.com/itunes and here you go. Let me just make this a little bit wider. There's iTunes right here and you'll just want to download the latest version of iTunes. And it's automatically reading them on Mac but yours should say "Windows" if you are on Windows. And then they have the option, the Email me New Music Tuesday. Basically, just every Tuesday, you're going to get an email about what's new in the iTunes Store. So, if you want that, leave that checked. And if you want that, you'll have to enter your email address and then if you want an email about--up to date with Apple news, you would also leave that checked. But you don't have to check either one and could just download without entering your email address. It also got some requirements down here. I think most computers these days should be able to handle iTunes but then you'll just download iTunes right here and just follow the instructions for the installation and then you'll have to agree to the terms of service and then that's it, iTunes will be installed. So, in the following clips, I'm going to go into how you can use iTunes to organize your music and buy new music and do all sorts of things."
