How to make free international calls from any phone, cellphone or landline

Video Preview

Introduction

I use Talkster to save on international calls. They make all your calls local, so you don't pay for international calls. You can use it from any phone; landline or cell. No payment, credit cards, software or registration needed. It's ad-supported -- that means you listen to a brief ad before you're connected, and after that you can talk as long as you like.

Tips & Warnings:

  • Make sure to have your CallerID unblocked, otherwise they can't recognize you so they can't connect the call.
  • There are 30 countries available right now, so those are the only places you can use it. They say they are adding more countries soon.
  • They don't have full coverage for every area code in the US and Canada, so if they don't have your area code available, they will give you a different one. Talkster doesn't charge you anything to make the call, but your phone provider may charge you something to call your Talkster numbers, so be sure to check what those costs are, if any. I've found in my case that it still turns out to be cheaper than calling directly.
Step1
Go to their website, www.talkster.com. Fill out the form on the home page to get your free Talkster numbers. All you have to do is give your name and number, and the name and number of the person (or persons) you want to call.
Step2
Once you get your new Talkster numbers, you make calls using your new Talkster numbers instead of the old long distance numbers.
Step3
Making a call with Talkster is a bit different than a regular phone call, but once I got the hang of it, it was easy! Call your Talkster number for your friend. When your friend answers, tell them to hang up and call you right back on their Talkster number for you. You stay on the line - don't hang up! As soon as your friend calls back, you both get connected and you can start talking as you normally would, for as long as you like.
Step4
I use it all the time to call friends in different countries, and it really works!
Step5
I save my Talkster numbers in my cellphone so I can use them whenever I want. I put them under each contact under "other" and use that number instead.
