How to Pollinate an Amaryllis for Seed Production

It’s also a great educational project you can do with kids. However, keep in mind that Amaryllis grown from seed will take 4-5 years to bloom so it will be a lesson in patience as well as horticulture.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Amaryllis with Ripe Pollen
    Amaryllis with Ripe Pollen

    Gently collect a bit of pollen on the paintbrush.

  2. Step 2
    Amaryllis with Open Stigma
    Amaryllis with Open Stigma

    Be sure the stigma is open and has three points. Brush or tap the pollen onto the stigma.

  3. Step 3

    Repeat this daily to ensure good fertilization.

  4. Step 4
    Swollen Seed Pods
    Swollen Seed Pods

    Within a few days, you should notice the seed pods located directly at the base of the bloom beginning to swell as it is producing seeds. When the pods burst open, harvest the seeds and plant soon.
