Absolute value is the distance a point on a number line is from zero. Remember that distance is always positive. So the absolute value of 5 is 5 because it is 5 units from zero and the absolute value of -5 is also 5 because it is 5 units from zero.

Solving absolute value equations is similar to solving regular algebraic equations except that you need to remember that we are usually looking for two answers.
