There are several methods for solving quadratic functions. I did not discuss graphing quadratic functions as a method for solving.
It is always a good idea to check your answer by substituting your answers back into the problem to make sure that your solution works in the problem. That is your answer makes the equation true.

If it factors, then it is easy to solve for the quadratic

If it does not factor, we can solve by using the quadratic formula or by completing the square
