"Welcome to Expert Village, this is Kim Brown. For your hairpins, bobby pins are my favorite tools to work with. I do use hairpins also. The difference is, booby pins are a tighter hold, they are going to give you the most support in your hairstyle and locking in the hair into place. If you are doing styles where you need to lock two pins, like if you are going to pin up all the hair all the way around the head, instead of putting it up in a pony tail or something, you want to just pin it up so you have a lot of working hair in the center. You are going to want to pin it and then lock another pin over it. You pin it in and then you come behind it with another pin; lock that over and then pin another one. You are going to have a series of crisscrossed bobby pins. They come in blonde, black, and silver. Hairpin is a looser pin. This is to hold down little ends, I’ll show you as I am working through the hair too. These don’t have as much hold as a bobby pin, but they are just for holding smaller amounts of hair where you just need to hold the piece down; and not completely locked it in, but you always you want to go up and then into the hair.
