"Welcome to Expert Village; this is Kim Brown. If you are going to do it yourself, and you want to do a French twist. I always like to take out a little section at the top, a triangle section just back to the crown area; and this way you have a little bit of hair to do something with when you are all finished and you got the hair up. Just get the section up out of the way, but you will probably want a little bit more pomade to hold the hair together, just break it through. You’re going to want to do a little bit of backcombing in this area, at the crown, that is where your pins are going to set. Just separate the section a little bit, go in, and back comb. Take another little section just so that you have about a one inch down and two inches of cross section, let back comb, so that you can stick your pins in to something to lock them into. When you are doing a French twist on your own, try to do it in one piece rather than if you are doing it professionally. We usually do it in two pieces, pull inside over pin it on and then clip the other side. Then you just take your hand over, grab the ponytail, and twist it up. Just keep twisting, and where your thumb is, that is where you are going to want to put your pin. You take your bobby pin and slip it in right where your thumb was. That will lock in your hair. She has a lot of hair so we are going to need to use a few bobby pins. Just a nice, soft French twist.
