I'm here to talk to you today about what to do when you're being stopped by the police. Once you've pulled over to the side of the road or the side the parking lot of onto the side street, once you've done that remain in your vehicle. Resist the urge to want to get out and explain yourself to the office right away. Don't worry, he's going to come up and talk to you. Stay in the vehicle unless the officer tells you different. We'll cover more about what you do after the officer approaches in a second, but let me tell you first if the officer asks you to get out, he doesn't need a reason. Go into the Supreme Court. He doesn't need a reason to ask you to step out of the vehicle. If he requests that you do, wait until he does, but if he does ask you to step out go ahead and comply with the officer. Same goes for the passengers. If there are passengers in the vehicle, Supreme Court says that an officer can actually ask the passengers to step out and he doesn't need a reason to do it. Most of the time you will find that the officer is asking for a safety issue. Remember the same theme, safety. If we're on a busy highway and the officer doesn't feel comfortable standing out on the side of your car where traffic is going by because he might get struck by a passing vehicle, he's going to go ahead and ask you to step out and stand off to the side of the road. Just remember stay in your vehicle until directed otherwise by the officer. If the officer does direct you otherwise, comply with what he asks you to do.
