"Hi! My name is Shaun Appler, investigator with the Wrightsville police department. On behalf of Expert Village, I'm here to talk to you today about what to do when you're being stopped by the police. Next topic I'm going to cover is why it's important that you know how to act properly when being stopped by the police. First of all, again, it's our same thing; safety. Whether it be yourself, whether it be other motorist, or whether it be the police, safety is the main concern. When the blue light come on behind you, depending on your reaction. You've got to think of it. The officer's mindset when he comes to work everyday is that he is going home at the end of this shift. He doesn't know you, you don't know him. Based upon what you do during that stop is going to dictate how he's going to treat everything that happens. He's trained to be safe and to protect himself. While you're stopping, when he's talking to you, the whole time through the stop, you've got to realize that this officer's main mindset is to make sure that he goes home safe at the end of the night. The other thing you've got to think about is when you're stopping the vehicle, however you're pulling over or whatever you're doing when you're stopping, you're affecting every other motorist on the rode that's around you. So to be safe you've got to make sure that you're doing the proper thing to make sure that everybody else is on the rode is safe as well."
