"Hi! My name is Shaun Appler, investigator with the Wrightsville police department. On behalf of Expert Village, I'm here to talk to you today about what to do when you're being stopped by the police. First thing I'm going to cover here is actually why do officer stop cars. It's going to be the theme throughout the whole program here is officers stop car for safety. Think about it. If you're speeding down the rode going above the posted speed limit, the faster you go, the less reaction distance that you have to stop a vehicle. They want to slow you down. Running red lights, obvious. Running stop lights, same. The officers are there to protect other motorist as well as yourself, also pedestrians and themselves. Why do they stop for inspection violations? Think about that too. If you're rolling down the highway and you've got an unsafe vehicle, you've got 2,000 pounds worth of vehicle traveling down the rode. If something is mechanically wrong with your vehicle and it goes wrong while you're traveling down the highway, it can cause an accident, hurt yourself, hurt other people. The main reason that officers are stopping your vehicle or stopping any vehicles on the highway, on the roadways, on the streets, it's because of safety."
