"Hello my name is Hakeem Lavelle I am here on behalf of Expert Village to do a how to video on teaching a foreign language. Now we are in the portion where you have to teach somebody who already speaks the language but from a colloquial standpoint; this can be a challenge. Now most of us are English speakers. Imagine if you were a person that came from another area or another region of the world didn't speak your language, learned your language in a foreign way and started teaching you how to speak your language this is the challenge that you are faced with when you are in this situation. Because you are in this situation where a person has learned a language properly, formally, they have learned it in a formal way. They know all the rules and know they are trying to teach it to you where they may speak the language fluently like you but they know all the rules. Now you are in the situation where you have to actually re-learn you own language. So now put this in a different scenario put this now where you are in a Spanish class where the teacher is teaching you proper Spanish. Where you have someone who came from maybe Panama, Peru, or Chile and they speak a brand of Spanish. So now you have to get them to speak that full formal Spanish. You have to get them to apply the rules. To go by the rules, and be formal as opposed to them just communicating. This can be tough. Now you have to get them to learn grammar and it is not just limited only to Spanish you have languages like Arabic who has a formal form; you have what is call Aamia which is slang, you know colloquial speech and what is called Fushat, classical Arabic which has a format which has grammar, which has rules. It could be very challenging to get a person to adapt from speaking the language in one way to a formal way. Because in their mind: "I already know this language." So the first key is to get them to understand that they may know how to speak it but they don't know the language. Thank you!"
