on 8/2/2008 Good effort! A little stiff and distant at first, but you warmed to your topic very well. You also picked a great book by a fantastic author.

"Hi, this is Ann and we’re here to talk about love of books. It’s important that you as a parent, model great behavior in terms of books. What does that mean? That means for example you take them home where you and your child sit down and you look at a book together or separately. And any book that you find within your home or the library would be great. Talking about the front of the book, the back of the book, talking about what the title of the book is, the author, looking at the pictures in the book and saying, “What do you think is happening within the story?” How many characters? How many people do you see on the page? These are the kinds of questions you can ask when you read with your child. Another important thing to do is go to the library and get a library card in your child’s name. A library card empowers your child to say, “Wow I get to check out books and I get to choose what books I want to read.” Reading is very important and to model that behavior in the home and at the library would be great. A visit to the librarian, oh my goodness she can read some wonderful books, the children’s library, just sitting there and watching the librarian read a book is a great opportunity. So be sure to take advantages of these wonderful opportunities we have in our city. "
