"This is Ann and we’re here today to talk about participation within the school. Parents are desperately needed to be active within the school, it’s a partnership between the teacher, the school and the parents, you need if you can be involved. What does that mean? That means for example joining the PTA, the Parent Teachers Association, being a volunteer within the classroom, if your child sees you at school from time to time and in an active role, that greatly empowers the child to feel proud to know that you care, that you’re there and that you understand his routine within the school and how the problems that he’ll be dealing with within the school day. If you could only do that, volunteer, join the PTA, go to open house, any visitations, back to school night. There are many opportunities where parents are welcome to come and meet the teacher, converse, visit, spend some time in the classroom and perhaps kick a ball on that playground. An example of involvement within the school would be, perhaps you have a special talent, you could come into the school and if you’re for example a fireman you could bring in your equipment and share it as show and tell with the students. If for example you’re a great baker, you could come in with some wonderful desserts to share with the students at snack time, have a little party and get to know the classmates of your child. These are rare opportunities that you must take part of because before you know it your child will be in college. "
