"Hi! My name is Ann and we are going to be talking now about skills are needed to be a successful student in kindergarten. In the beginning of the school year at most school districts teachers will test for letter recognition. What does that mean? This is what it means. You need to have your student or your child know the letters of the alphabet in order and out of order. You need to know capital letters and lower case letters. Capital and lower case this is usually the words that are used within the classroom and a fun way to do this is when you are driving down the street or you are at a market or any location you say, Hey! Look there is a letter G in Grapes, there is the letter B as in Beef or C as in croissant. These are the kinds of things or activities you can work with your child in the market, at the park, anywhere in the mall. So again you want to do it and find an informal way pointing out and analyzing the various letters or for example taking the name of your child. For example let us take the name Mary. My goodness, Mary, your name begins with the letter M and it ends with a letter Y. You have a short name because you only have 1, 2, 3, 4 letters in your name. That is the kind of activities you could work with your daughter or son at home. Thank you so much."
