We take out an existing one and what we will do is wire into it. If we are going to slice into an existing one we take it out and we have got the new wire and we strip it back as I showed you before and we unscrew each of these. First, the red and then the green or vice versa. And slicing the two wires underneath the same lug, the thing that allows you to jump to the next one. Some people like taking the two reds and before you put it underneath the screw you twist them together. "

on 8/2/2008 You have the WRONG wires. You must use the wires in twisted PAIRS. You specified Green to Green and Orange to red. The correct wires for Line one is WhiteBlue tip to GREEN and BlueWhite ring to RED. Your method will cause an unbalanced line and even for short distances you will pick up noise, hum and crosstalk. This will be WORSE if you have 2 lines. Yet even WORSE crossed lines if you tap in to an existing properly wired installation with this miswired concoction. WhiteBlue tip1 Green rj11 4wire line1. BlueWhite ring 1 Red rj11 4wire line1. WhiteOrange tip2 Black rj11 4wire. line2 OrangeWhite ring2 Yellow rj11 4wire line2. WhiteGreen tip3 Blue rj45 8wire line3. GreenWhite ring3 White rj45 8 wire line3. Note this is analog phone wiring. Digital phone and Data wiring has different jacks not worth mentioning here.
