" Hi, I am Drew Fendy here today to demonstrate how to install a jack for your telephone for ExpertVillage.com. The different types of wire is very important and if you need help you can go to your local store and talk to the people there about which is best for your application. A telephone wire is different than a wire that you use for a thermostat. That is two-conductor, you need two wires, however the thermostat they just run them straight and you can get a lot of noise on them. This Cat 3 has several wires in it, they are twisted individually and they are made for telephone use. So the way that they are constructed will cut down on the noise that you have on the phone. Now for a higher speed service for internet type stuff, you want a Cat 5, they have the pairs individually twisted, and it is a better quality, they are put together better and there is more shielding on them so that you have less noise for those than you even have for the regular telephone wires. So those are the two common types, they have even higher grade wires but make sure that you do not use just a plain two-conductor to go straight like we use for a thermostat wire which is essentially an on/off switch. We need something with a higher quality for you telephone. "
