"I am Steve Blank, drummer and the Cruisers here to talk to you about some advanced drum exercises. Let's start with stretching. Start with the sticks crossed and palms up. Grip sticks tightly near the hands. Start with your left hand moving towards your right elbow. The right hand moves up and the right elbow moves out. The sticks twists over with the wrist and then push forward to finish the stretch and return back to start. Now the right hand to the left elbow. The left hand moves up and the left elbow moves out. You can try with your hands close together. This time we will add an additional shoulder stretch just as a runner should stretch so should a drummer. Another shoulder stretch are behind the head. Grab the elbow with the opposite hand, gently stretch that side of your body. For this next stretch, extend the butts of the sticks ripping them in one hand tightly. Twist the sticks back and forth as fast as you can without loosing the sticks. Stretching warms up muscle making it more responsive. It stretches tendons and ligaments to increase range of motion and speed. Finally a stretch of the forearms. Original starting position, press across and down feeling the stretch in the forearm. I'll switch. Now ready to play."
