"Hi! This is Bobby Hester on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this next clip, we’re going to demonstrate the proper way to clean CDs and DVDs. CDs and DVDs are real sensitive to the fingerprints, especially DVDs, because the data on a DVD is so much more compressed. The information, 1s and 0s, that are on the disc, are so much closer together, that even a decent fingerprint can cause the DVD not to play properly. Your first step would be to check for any fingerprints, smudges, or anything that might be on the disc, and clean those properly. I’ll start out with a very soft cloth I bought this especially for cleaning the CDs and DVDs. You can use some real fine tissue, but I would prefer to get a cloth that’s made for cleaning camera lenses and things like that. I added just a little bit of alcohol on there to clean off any material, grease, or grime that might be on the disc. I’m going to clean the disc from the inside out. This will clean off all the smudges and fingerprints that might be on the disc. It will allow the disc to play properly once again. I always check my disc to see what kind of condition they are in and try to properly maintain them. Make sure to keep them in their cases, especially the DVDs, because they’re very sensitive to any foreign objects or any fingerprints that might appear on the disc. Once that you have got it cleaned, if you notice that there are any scratches on the discs, you will need to repair those also. The first step would be just to clean the disc off any foreign material. We’ll discuss fixing scratches in the next clip."
