"Hi. I'm Cat Tiffin with Expert Village and today I'm going to walk you through how to make a New Year's resolution and stick to it. Now we've made our list of resolutions and things we'd like to change. And now we're going to go through and see which ones are realistic and which are maybe unrealistic. Stop smoking. Things we can actually do instead of just quitting again cold turkey - smoke less. Set a goal, a daily goal, weekly goal, monthly goal. Say, if you smoke a pack a day, well I'm going to smoke, start small. This is the way to do this - eighteen a day. And then once you've conquered that for say the first couple of weeks to a month, say even two weeks, you're down to maybe fifteen a day. At the end of the first month, you feel a little bit more confident and want to drop down to say twelve a day. Little goals for yourself. Come back and reevaluate those at the end of the month period, actually see how you're doing, see how much money you're spending and then if you feel like you can make that jump from half a pack to no cigarettes, do it. It's basically what you feel comfortable with. Wean yourself off them one at a time. Don't put yourself in situations where you do smoke more. If you're more likely to smoke while you're sitting there having a cup of coffee in the morning while you're reading the paper before work, maybe, don?t. Give yourself a little extra time. Brush your teeth more. Have another cup of coffee. That sort of thing. Don't smoke in your car. It's a big thing for me. For me to be able to quit, not smoking in the car was a huge deal. I realized I was stressed and would smoke in the car. Don't smoke in the car. And if you ride a bike, you definitely should not be smoking. It sends a bad message to kids when they see you."
