How to Preserve Halloween Pumpkins

"Hi this is Shana Bethune and on behalf of Expert Village and I'm going to talk to you about preserving your pumpkin. So once your pumpkin is carved it is going it is going to rot a lot faster especially if you have a candle in it. Having a candle in it makes it more warmer which means you are basically cooking it. So first of all only have you pumpkin lite from the inside when you have to. Make sure you put it out don't let the candle sit in there so long that is forms a puddle of wax on the bottom and goes out by itself. Also when you pumpkin is not outside bring it inside and put it in the refrigerator. When it is sitting outside in the sun all day again it could also get cooked, or animals could eat it when it is outside. Frost is also really damaging and just children in the neighborhood aren't necessarily responsible around other people pumpkins. So it is really a good idea to bring it inside at night. Another thing you can do to preserve the edges is to coat them in vegetable oil. So take a paper towel and some oil, put a little bit of oil on the towel and then rub it along the inside of the parts that are carved. This prevents that edges from drying up to quickly and the key in preserving your pumpkin is keeping it moist. Another thing you can do if you pumpkin is getting very dried out is just submerge it in water for a little while it would suck up the water and be rehydrate."
