Hi this is Drew Finn for we are going to talk about cleaning and maintaining a deck. This video is presented by Black Dog Video and you can visit us on the web on We have cleaned the deck, washed it down, we are prepared to stain it. What you want to use is a stain with a pigment tool we need a color. The clear stains won't block ultraviolet and the surface of the wood could deteriorate. The pressure treated wood is not going to rot on you but it could deteriorate by the suns rays. So we got a stain here. Go all the way around; when you take the top of you want to make sure you don't try to pry it all at once you work your way around. I have spray painted these on and it just goes on last much better if we would brush it. So we are going to brush it today. So the can we always have to stir it up to get the pigment up to the solution and then we would apply it with the brush. So I like using strokes back and forth - you can really work it in and we put it on fairly heavy. Just go from there. So work your way through brushing back in an angle like this works really well to make sure that we get really deep penetration in the wood. So you just work on that for the rest of the deck and you should be all set. Remember when you are done you clean up you brush or if is worn out done the whole deck you might want to throw it out. So that is what we have but we got to make sure before you start this we let several weeks pass since you cleaned it that pressure cleaner really throws the water in. particularly where the nail holes are so we want to make sure it is good and dry before we paint or stain actually to seal in the stain is what you'll be looking for. So you can go to your paint supply store and ask them for the best on for you area. Have fun staining you deck.
