Cleaning With a Broom Brush: Deck Care & Maintenance

"Hi this is Drew Finn for expertvillage.com we are going to talk about cleaning and maintaining a deck. Now for a larger part of a deck or a deck where we don't have this much green growth and we just want to clean it off. What we are going to do is throw some water on with a bucket and then we take a broom and sway it back and forth so lets do that. Now we take the broom and we splash it around and we spread it out. Now it is important that we don't scrub it now we just trying to get coverage on it cause we are going to let it sit a minute. Let the chemical work... and give it a pause a bit. This is another good reason to be doing it when the sun is not out or like in the evening or in a overcast day so it doesn't dry out on us. So we just let it sit awhile and then what we can do is scrub it with a broom. You will save a lot of back labor but like what we have shown before in the areas like up tight here or areas that have a heavier green growth you would like to use a hand manual one so you can get a little bit more pressure on the area. You can go with the grain or you can go perpendicular to it. It is preferable to have a pattern both directions and that way you can get those little cracks and crevices better."
