The Dormancy Stage in Carnivorous Plants

If you want to know more about these plants you can visit us at equilibriocarnivorousplants.com. a common mistake that many people make when trying to grow carnivorous plants is that they see a plant like this and think it’s dying, they end up throwing this plant in the trash when really all that’s happening is that it’s going into it’s normal, natural period of dormancy. What you want to do when this happens, there’s several things you can do it actually depends on the kind of species that you have and also the region where it naturally grows. If you live in a warmer climate, when your plant starts to go into dormancy there’s several things you can do. In the winter months, if it has green leaves like this, you can place it on the window seal in your basement where it will receive temperatures of 40 to 50 degrees for 3 or 4 months out of the year from about November to February. Another alternative to placing you plant in the basement or garage especially if you live in warmer areas where these areas of your house wont get cold enough during the winter is placing your plant in the refrigerator. You can do this by first placing it in a plastic bag and then securing the top with a twist tie to lock in the humidity. You want to place the plant somewhere dark like in the vegetable drawer, something like that where it wont get disturbed and you don’t need to water it the months that you’re keeping it in the refrigerator either."
