Introduction to Multiplexing Ball Juggling Techniques

" Hi! I’m Adria. I’m one of the professional jugglers here at expertvillage.com. This segment is called multiplexing. We’re starting to get into the more advanced juggling work. We’re still working with three balls, but we’re going to drop one of them for now. Multiplexing is very confusing; there’s two forms of multiplexing. There’s a vertical multiplex where you keep the balls in a vertical pattern in your hand. They can go up in the air at the same time and be caught with the other hand; they can be thrown up in the air and caught in the same hand. As you can see, they’re moving vertically, this is a vertical multiplex, and it’s the basis of one of the two types of multiplexing that we’re going to do. The other kind of multiplexing is a horizontal multiplexing: horizontal multiplexing you hold the balls in a horizontal pattern, you throw them up in the air at the same time, and you catch one in each hand because they separate out in the air. The hand grips are different: horizontal multiplex you keep your hand flat and toss them in the air and catch one with each hand; you can do with the right hand or the left hand, that’s a horizontal multiplex. The vertical multiplexing you keep your hand parallel to your arm, perpendicular to the ground, you hold one ball above the other, keeping your fingers straight, clasping with your thumb and pinky, and you throw them up releasing at the same time. You can toss them again from hand to hand using that same grip, or keeping it in the same hand: that’s the basis of multiplexing.
