"Hi, I'm Mark Emiley on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment, I'm going to give you an overview of the American Amber style. While there are many beers which can be classified as "Ambers," today we are going to be focusing on something that is closer to home: an American Amber Ale. For an American Amber Ale, we are going to go with a nice amber to kind of copper color. These may be slightly hazy depending on the hopping, but overall, they are going to have a nice kind of off-white head with a fairly decent retention. For the aroma, we are going to start to pick up some of the nice American citrus hops. Sometimes if you add the hops nice and late, you can get some citrusy characters. Then you are going to pick up some nice maltiness to it, and a fair amount of caramel. For the flavor, you are going to start immediately to pick up the hop flavor from the American character or American hop varieties. With regards to this, it's going to be primarily citrusy; maybe some resin, maybe some pine. The malt flavors are going to be nice and rich. It's going to show a nice malty sweetness and then follow it up with some nice complex caramel notes. Overall, it can kind of bounce back and forth between the malt and the hop bitterness. The mouth feel is going to be medium and then actually it can even be medium-full body. It's going to have a fair amount of carbonation, but overall it should finish nice and smooth with a bitterness that lingers but is nice and clean. This is basically an American pale ale with a little more body and little more caramel and a little more malt overall than hops. But it will still showcase the nice American hops."
