When you are doing a structural repair, which this little job has sort of turned into, we are cutting away that inner body member. That's actually a structural member of the car. It's part of the material needed to keep the car rigid. If it were a more substantial structure member, we would have to brace the car. This piece here is more of a crash protection piece than it is an important key element in the car's structural rigidity. So we are able to do the repair here without major re-bracing of the car to hold it stable while we do the cutting.
