Hi! I’m Tina Buechler from Business Growth Training, I’m here today talking about tips and techniques for hiring a new employee. In this clip I want to talk about a very, very important step and that is the last step training the employee. Once you have determined to hire this person this process often leaves your company in a very bad state, you have more work than you have people to do the work that’s why you’re hiring. You’ve now taking your person who’s doing the hiring out of the productive place and put them into the hiring spot, so generally at this point now that you’ve decided to hire this person you got a lot more work to do and you just don’t have time to do it and one of the main things we failed to do is to train this employee more than just in the skills to the job, even if this applicant has all of the skills to do the job, need to help this applicant become successful in your company. What are the key responsibilities you want this person to answer to? What are the deliverables? Is there certain amount of work? When do you want reports done? What is the culture of the workplace like? What is your do you have an employee manual that will help somebody understand? You want this person to be successful, this person would want to be successful nobody goes to work in the morning and thinks you know I’m going to go and tick this person off and upset that and fail at that, then I’m going to go home and have some coffee, that’s not what people aim to do they mean to be successful. Employers when they hire want that person to be successful, very often when somebody is unsuccessful it’s because we haven’t spent time helping them understand what it is we want them to do, how it is we want them to do it, when we want them to do it, when do we want it complete, who do we want them to report to, all of those kinds of things that will help the applicant do the job just so much better. Take the guest work out and give specifics, once people know exactly what you want them to do then that’s what they’ll do, biggest challenge is when people don’t know exactly what you want to do they make their best estimate of what you would want them to do and then it doesn’t match what you’re looking for and then you’re thinking, “man if really thought I hired well” you may very well had hired well but just didn’t train well. The fundamental step in the hiring process that often gets missed, make sure you now invest in that person and help that person become successful.
