How to Choose a Scanner

"Hi this is Matt Dinatale representing expertvillage.com and in this clip I'm going to show you how to choose a scanner. There are two different types of scanners to choose from; a sheetfed scanner and a flatbed scanner. A sheetfed scanner is where you put multiple pages in and it scans those images in to your PC. A flatbed scanner, like this one here is better for images so you could put the image down on the flat bed of the scanner and scan the image in. Things you want to look for when choosing a scanner is what type of connection. There are USB connections, there are parallel connections, and there is SCSI connections. Just look at your PC and see what type of connection that you have. Most PCs now day have both parallel and USB. Another thing you want to look out for is obstacle resolution. A standard scanners are probably about 300 DPI, which is a pretty decent scanner. The higher the better. With the obstacle resolution does it basically is how well the scanner reads the image. Another thing that you want to look for is the color depth. Is a 8 bit, a 16 bit, 20 bit, now days you could get in the 40s, like 42, 48 bit type of a scanner. That is how you choose a scanner."
