When you envision a bird landing on a tree branch, the hand is cupped and this is probably the most important secret for learning to touch type. If your hand is flat which when someone is looking down at the keyboard that if they have their hands flat, their middle finger is going to get tall, their pinkie gets very short and so when they go to the keyboard they are always looking down because their fingers are not in the perch position. When your hand is in the perch position, your fingers line up in a straight line. This enables you to have your finger tips right on the keys and this is where your nerve endings are and that is where you are going to be able to feel the touch of the keys. So the perch position is probably the most important secret of the whole keyboarding. "
