Pet Ferret Travel & the Law

"Hi there! I'm Fran Friedman from Morning Star Animal Sanctuary and I am here to talk to you about whether a ferret should go with you traveling on behalf of expertvillage.com. I just wanted to make clear that ferrets are not legal in all states, so it is very improtant that if you are traveling say from Arizona to California you would definitely want to call ahead and find out if ferrets are legal. I happen to know that ferrets are not legal in California and if the ferret is confiscated, they are held one week and they must be flown back out to a sanctuary or they are euthanized. It is quite costly to get them shipped back out whether they would even relinquish them to you is another story. So always when you are traveling, I don't know some of the other states and they do change all the time because they feel that it is mostly the ego system groups that feel that if the ferret did get loose, that it would mingle with the parrot, reproduce and destroy the ego system. It's a fact that they are not exotists which means they can exist in the wild. They have been domesticated for over thousand of years and they cannot survive for more than 3 or 4 days out in the wild and they will definitely die. If its not starvation, a dog or coyote or a car, will definitely end their life. So definitely call ahead and make sure that whatever state you are traveling into that your ferret is allowed to be there."
