"Hi there! I'm Fran Friedman from Morning Star Animal Sanctuary and I am here to talk to you about shipping ferrets on behalf of expertvillage.com. Though normally we do not ship our ferrets for adoption, people have to come and pick them up even if it is out of state but we have received ferrets from California where they are illegal and when they are confiscated they must shipped out to a sanctuary so we have gone to the airport and picked up ferrets that have been on some 12 to 14 hour flights to get to us. It's not a pretty sight when they get here. Usually their food and water is spilled or gone. They have to wire up cages certain ways so that they don't get out. Even normal cages or not acceptable; they have to have extra wiring on them. We don't recommend it. Ferret breeders will ship I've been told. They don't mind shipping. I would definitely recommend not shipping when we are in the summer months as the shipping whole compartments are not air conditioned and ferrets will not last too long in that situation. So we don't recommend shipping but in an emergency situations we have received ferrets that have been shipped to us and they have arrived safely and they have been okay. After a few days, they usually maybe go off their food a little bit but we tend to bring them back but we don't recommend it definitely in a state such as Arizona or other hot states during the summer months.
