Traveling With a Pet Ferret

The domesticated ferret is an elongated mammal that closely resembles the weasel. Domestication of ferrets dates all the way back to 1500 BC, though wild ferrets do still exist. Ferrets make great pets, and seem to be more people-friendly than the typical house cat. Making your home ferret-friendly is often the most challenging aspect of ferret ownership. Ferrets tend to enjoy chewing on rubber and foam items and can be harmed if these are ingested. Also, ferrets can chew holes into walls and be injured by electrical wires, or escape to the outdoors. Ferrets are meat eaters and live on a diet of meat, organs and raw bones. For the domestic ferret, there is a variety of dry foods available.

Ferrets love to travel but with that travel comes a lot of stress that they don't handle very well. In this free video series you will not only learn how to tell if your ferret is under stress from traveling but you will learn what to do to make it more comfortable and calm it down. Sometimes it's just not a good idea to travel with your pet ferret and with these videos you'll know the warning signs that could save you a lot of trouble.

The first thing is ferrets do love to travel. When you have your ferrets, sometimes leaving them home is stressful and they do get very stressed when they are separated from their owners. The best solution, if possible, is to take them with you. Make sure the first thing is the weather. Ferrets can have heat stroke within 5 minutes. Definitely if the weather is too warm it is sometimes best to bring in a pet sitter and not travel with your pet. If you can go in an air conditioned car to where you are going or if you are going some where where it is very short distance and there will be air conditioning, then they certainly can go out in the summer months. Definitely traveling in the winter is better because they do take cool a lot better than they do the heat. If you have to travel with your ferret, make sure that you bring plenty of water. I always buy a case of water just in case you are out and the car gets stuck some where, you have enough water that you can even water down your animal to keep them from getting heat stroke. There are several signs such as if your ferret starts yawning or looking very lethargic definitely make sure he has a good drink along the way and ferrets do eat every 4 hours so you certainly will have to bring their favorite food.
