"Hello, I’m Dr. Greg McDonald and I am here for Expert Village.com. We are talking about flea control in your pet, that’s your dog and your cat. I wanted to talk for a moment about an oral preparation for both your dog and your cat and it is called Program. Program is a product that comes as a liquid for cats, an injection for cats and it also comes as a tablet or liquid for your dog. The injection is given every 6 months for your cat. A lot of people like that because they don’t have to give a pill, don’t have to worry about their cat getting it and you go to your veterinarian and they give it an injection every 6 months. It takes care of all your flea problems in your cat. This is a very unique product because it actually is birth control for fleas. Every flea that bites your dog or your cat winds up having sterile eggs. If you are controlling the egg population in your environment, you won’t have any flea problems in your house and yard. It is also important to recognize the fact that with this product you may actually see an adult flea but you will never have an infestation in your house. I’ve had some clients at some time say they saw a flea and that product does not work. If you are traveling around with your dog or your cat is going on your property, they can pick up an adult flea and that flea will bite your dog or cat but fleas have to have a blood meal in order to make eggs and if your dog is on this product, those eggs will be sterile. So it is basically birth control for fleas and again, it keeps the flea population at a very low level in your environment."
