"Hi! I’m Tine Buechler from Business Growth Training and I am here today on behalf of Expert Village.com. In this clip I want to talk about negotiating salary. This tends to be one of the final pieces of the job search component and if you implement an organized and a methodical job search, there is a very good chance that you are going to have more than one job offer. You need to look at the job offers. Often they are not exactly an apple to apple consideration. Some things to consider when you are negotiating a salary; first of all, you need to do some research and find out what is the salary range for the position that you are applying for within your area. Again if the company is unionized, you might not have a choice in salary negotiations. If you can and there is a job posting, get a job posting to get an idea of what are the key skills and the salary range for that position that will help you then negotiate as well. Some other things to consider are that some people think that employers just want to buy the employee for the least amount of money. That’s not been my experience. Employers want good value. They are prepared to pay more money for money skill. The better you can outline your skills then the more money I’m willing to pay. So negotiating salary, please don’t low ball yourself. Make sure you include a salary range that is respectable. I’ve seen people not be hired because they put too low of a salary. The employer then thinks if that’s what you think your skills are worth, then that’s not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for a higher skilled level and I am willing to pay more. Another thing to consider is if you have been given a salary range before you have a good idea of what that job requires, you might want to defer negotiations for a little while until you have some additional information. Things to consider are company car. Are there bonuses? If this is an entry level position but there is a good opportunity for advancement, you might be willing to take less money for the chance or advancement. These are all different parts of the negotiation process. Go back to your employment goal. What was it you were looking for? What were the key components of the position that you were looking for? This is the time to negotiate that to ensure that you are receiving your job goal. You might be able to choose more accurately which company you want to go with more than just on salary, but on all the other things that you want from an employer. All of those things should be included as well in your negotiations. "
