Puppy Proof a House

When you bring a puppy in to your home, you want to make sure that the home is safe for and from the puppy. I am going to give you a couple of examples here, you can see over here I have a pair of shoes that are lying on the floor. They are just sitting here on the floor. Now with an adult dog this is not a problem. He has already learned that he shouldn’t be playing with or chewing the shoes, but with a puppy that is a potential play toy, so when you have got things like shoes on the floor you want to just pick them up and put them out of reach of the puppy. At the same time you want to make sure that you do have things that the puppy can chew on. So I have got toys scattered around the floor then I don’t mind if the puppy does play with and I can direct him towards these toys. Another thing you want to be very careful about is electrical cords, so before the puppy came in, I would have had this cord plugged in down here at this outlet. When the puppy comes into the house, I make sure that low cords are up and out of reach of the puppy. One place that commonly has a lot of cords is in the back of your computer, usually there are cords coming from your computer, from your monitor, from your keyboard, from your printer, from your scanner, so there is usually just a jumble of cords back there, so it is a good idea to go back there and see are they low to the ground, are they accessible to your puppy. It would be nasty shock for your puppy if he bit into one of them."
