How to De-Skunk a Dog

When your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, it can be very frustrating. A lot of the remedies to get rid of the skunk smell don't work. The solution that I share in this article is the solution used by the majority of pet groomers in the United States. It is simple, and you probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen.

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Baking Soda
  • Dish Soap
  1. How to De-Skunk Your Dog

    • 1

As soon as your dog is sprayed, mix the above ingredients into a large bowl. Mix about a quart of the peroxide and a half box of baking soda. Put in about an 1/8 cup of the dish soap.

    • 2

Don't wet your dog down. Put the mixture on your dog while your dog is still dry.

    • 3

Let it stay on your dog for about 10 minutes.

    • 4

Rinse your dog. Reapply the mixture if your dog has really been nailed by the skunk.

    • 5

If after 24 hours your dog still has a skunk smell, give him another bath using the mixture.
