Step 1
Find a small hill that you can use to teach this trick.
-
Step 2
Give your dog the command "down." Get your dog to relax in this position and hold a treat close to your dog's nose.
-
Step 3
Bring the treat over your dog's head so she has to bend her neck to follow the treat.
-
Step 4
Get your dog to tuck his head to follow the treat. As your dog follows the treat, he will start to roll over.
-
Step 5
As your dog starts to roll over, the hill will help her go all the way over. A lot of people have problems with roll over because the dog stalls half way through the trick.
-
Step 6
Once your dog starts to understand the command, you can try it on a flat surface.
-
Step 7
Small dogs can do multiple roll overs. If you have a larger breed of dog, don't do more than one roll over at a time. Roll over does put stress on your dog's hips, so we don't want to over do it.
