You want to experience the great outdoors, but a tent is too primitive and an RV is too expensive. Now turn your car, truck, SUV or van into an RV complete with bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.
Outfit your HitchKitchen with accessories you find most convenient - if you want a microwave - install one with a 12VDC to 120VAC inverter!
The bathroom/toilet/shower module is optional. An alternative is to buy a 'shower tent' and set this into a waterproof vinyl shower containment floor. Use a small battery powered sump pump used shower water into a portable holding tank or through a garden hose away from your campsite.
Car Top Campers have been used for years around the world, but are still fairly new and unknown in the US. Be carefully climbing the ladder, don't horseplay in the tent etc.
Use environmentally friendly products when camping.
Step1
Download easy to read plans from www.hitchkitchen.com (about $4).
Step2
Cargo Carriers are available from many Internet suppliers - search for 'cargo carrier' you'll need one that is 24" x 60"
Order a cargo carrier that attaches to your car's trailer hitch receiver. Cost is about $100.
Step3
Partially completed HitchKitchen
Follow the instructions to build a mobile kitchen and bathroom that sits on a cargo carrier. Cost for materials is about $500. Construction takes about 2 weekends.
Step4
Roof tent from CarTopCamper.com
Order a roof top tent for the top of your car. Best price I've found is from www.cartopcamper.com. Cost is about $1000.
Step5
HitchKitchen can be used on or off the car.
Install the HitchKitchen on the cargo carrier and the roof tent to your car's cargo rack system (Thule and Yakima make great racks) for a comfortable go-anywhere RV that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
